Macon Me Crazy – Day 3

Today, we took a trip to Fort Macon. Fort Macon, engineered by a young Robert E. Lee, takes you back in time into the lives of those in the Civil War-era. We first briskly walked through the museum inside so we didn’t miss our guided tour. If you don’t have much time, the museum isn’t a must-see but I would suggest a guided tour. We had the cutest, little old man as our tour guide. He explained the significance of the fort during the Civil War and what all they faced.

We explored the barracks and tried to imagine a life at Fort Macon. It didn’t seem to be a place for many women or families to live. One of the generals died at age 29 and I couldn’t help but think about the amount of life he had lived and the things he had seen. It was surely a lot different from my life now. Also, if they wanted to go to the bathroom at night, they had to climb out of a small door inside of the larger door and then walk a long way because there were NO bathrooms inside of the fort. 🙂 Well, now that just wouldn’t have cut it for me! Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here – especially since it is free.

Our last meal together for a while was at Molly’s. Located on a pier, with beach access, this lunch spot is perfect for beach bums and it has some great burgers. After lunch, I had to bid Atlantic Beach farewell and head back to CLT.

Atlantic Beach is filled with many things to do and so many beautiful things to see. With historic buildings lining the coast and mouth-watering restaurants, AB is the perfect weekend trip! I would like to take a brief moment and brag on Casey Page for being who she is. Casey was a wonderful hostess and is an even better friend. She is as loyal as it gets and is always willing to help anyone out. Whether it was letting a car out in traffic or just being kind to the people around her, she is a light to those around her. I hope you have a Casey Page in your life – as always, go heels!
